REAP stands for Respect for the Earth and All People. We are a not-for-profit association for locally owned and consciously operated businesses that are working to create a greener, locally-based economy. Our mission is to inspire and assist Calgarians to make a difference by purchasing from local businesses that are committed to people and the planet as well as profits.
We do this through two separate but related programs:
- Public awareness: Our website and articles inform citizens about issues of sustainability and the positive impact that Calgary businesses have on the community, the economy and the environment. REAP encourages people to support these businesses whenever possible and offers an annual coupon book to make it easy. Events like Naturally, REAP Down to Earth Week and the Earth Charter Summit help to create a sense of community by connecting citizens with local businesses in a fun, entertaining atmosphere.
- Business collaboration: Through its members-only online forum, quarterly membership meetings, business events and monthly networking, REAP helps business leaders deepen their commitment to sustainability by sharing resources and best practices, and doing business with other progressive companies. Supplier discounts help businesses save money when choosing to purchase more environmentally responsible goods and services.
It seems like every business is now “green” and it’s sometimes hard to know who to trust for authentic, responsibly made products and services. At REAP we want to help you find companies that really care, so we evaluate all of our members against social and environmental criteria.*Only companies that are truly committed to sustainability can join our association.
